DevOps Engineer (WordPress & Hosting)

About the Role

Brainstorm Force is a product-based software company that builds WordPress products and SaaS applications, while also hosting WordPress production sites for customers. We are looking for a skilled and motivated DevOps Engineer with 2–3 years of experience to help maintain the performance, security, availability, and scalability of our infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing customer hosting environments on cPanel, WordPress/PHP servers running on Nginx and LiteSpeed, and Laravel and Next.js SaaS applications deployed on bare-metal servers and VPS environments. You will also leverage AI tools like Claude in your day-to-day work to troubleshoot issues, build automation, and document solutions more efficiently, while ensuring that every production change is reliable, secure, and well-tested.

What you’ll be doing:

WordPress/PHP servers:

  • Run and tune Nginx + PHP-FPM and LiteSpeed/OpenLiteSpeed stacks with MySQL/MariaDB and Redis.
  • Fix slow sites, 5xx errors, memory exhaustion and database bottlenecks.

SaaS infrastructure:

  • Deploy and maintain Laravel (queues, Horizon/Supervisor, schedulers) and Next.js (Node/PM2) apps on bare metal and VPS.
  • Run zero-downtime deployments with clear rollback plans.

Customer hosting (cPanel/WHM):

  • Maintain the servers that host our customers’ production WordPress sites.
  • Handle account setup and migrations, PHP version management, resource limits, malware cleanup and email deliverability.
  • Diagnose and fix server-level issues on customer sites.

Edge and networking:

  • Own DNS, Cloudflare (WAF, caching rules, SSL modes), CDN setup and load balancing across our services.
  • Improve performance through CDN and caching (Cloudflare, server-side caching, Redis object cache).

Cloud services and reliability:

  • Manage AWS S3 storage, SES email sending and IAM access, following least-privilege practices.
  • Run monitoring, alerting, backups with tested restores, patching, SSH hardening, firewalls and SSL/TLS certificates.
  • Respond to incidents and write clear root-cause reports.
  • Document infrastructure and fixes so the team can work from shared runbooks, and work with development teams to scale applications and improve performance.

AI-assisted operations:

  • Use Claude to troubleshoot, write scripts and Ansible playbooks, review configs and keep runbooks current.
  • Automate routine tasks with shell scripting, Ansible and other tools.
  • Check AI output before running it, and never share customer data or credentials with it.

You must have these skills:

  • 2–3 years working on Linux production servers over SSH.
  • Hosted and maintained WordPress/PHP sites at server level: reading logs, fixing 500/502 errors, slow sites, PHP and memory issues.
  • Working knowledge of DNS, Cloudflare/CDN, SSL, and the basics of how load balancing works.
  • MySQL/MariaDB basics: backups, restores, finding slow queries.
  • Redis working knowledge: installing and securing it (no public exposure, password/ACL), WordPress object caching, Laravel cache/queue/session use, and basic memory and eviction settings.
  • Working knowledge of core AWS services:
    • S3: buckets, access policies, storing backups and assets, lifecycle rules
    • SES: domain verification, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, handling bounces and complaints, leaving the sandbox
    • IAM: users vs. roles, least-privilege policies, access keys and why to avoid long-lived ones
  • Uses Claude or similar AI tools in daily technical work, and checks the output before running it.

Good-to-Have skills:

  • cPanel/WHM server administration or shared-hosting infrastructure experience
  • LiteSpeed/OpenLiteSpeed, PHP-FPM tuning
  • Deploying Laravel or Node.js/Next.js apps; PM2/Supervisor
  • Load balancer setup (Nginx, HAProxy, cloud LB)
  • AWS CloudFront and other AWS services (EC2, Route 53, CloudWatch)
  • Bash scripting, Ansible, Docker, CI/CD
